{"id":32416,"date":"2012-09-25T09:13:28","date_gmt":"2012-09-25T16:13:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=32416"},"modified":"2012-09-25T22:08:32","modified_gmt":"2012-09-26T05:08:32","slug":"nike-uses-us-open-and-moves-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=32416","title":{"rendered":"Nike Uses US Open And Moves On"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/nike-logo.jpg\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/nike-logo.jpg','popup','width=394,height=242,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/nike-logo-tm.jpg\" height=\"61\" width=\"100\" border=\"1\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Nike-Logo\" \/><\/a>This is hardly worth mentioning, but (big surprise) <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nike.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nike<\/a><\/strong> has reportedly gotten everything it can out of both the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usopenofsurfing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">US Open of Surfing<\/a><\/strong> and the City of Huntington Beach, California and is kicking their whole sponsorship deal to the curb, according to an interview on a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shop-eat-surf.com\/news-item\/4246\/nike-hurley-end-us-open-sponsorship\/-\" target=\"_blank\">Shopping Eating and Surfing<\/a><\/strong> blog.<\/p>\n<p>As one would expect Nike&#8217;s Global Action Sports VP <strong>Sandy Bodecker<\/strong> believes Nike did <em>so<\/em> much for the event, the sport, and the entire world of action sports that the company (and all its brands) can now move on to other venues and spread their all-knowing amazingness.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Connecting with millions of fans in the heart of the action sports community was amazing experience for both brands,&#8221; Bodecker said. &#8220;Working with IMG and the City of Huntington Beach allowed for the elevation of the US Open of Surfing to positively impact a broader audience and introduce them to the power and excitement of sport. . . In putting on an event with such large exposure, we pushed our teams to find an authentic connection to stay true to the core of the sport and lifestyle. . . The biggest challenge ahead for the US Open is to bring the energy from Huntington Beach to even more fans across the world.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/articles\/nike-372562-hurley-converse.html\" target=\"_blank\">Orange County Register<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, Nike apologist <strong>Evan Slater<\/strong> (Hurley PR) said Nike did what it came to do in terms of elevating the contest and attracting more top surfers.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBut we also strive to constantly innovate and evolve. For us, we\u2019ve decided to export what we created at the U.S. Open and invest it into other aspects of our business, like a renewed athlete focus and new and exciting ways of connecting with millions of kids.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As we&#8217;ve said before, Nike&#8217;s only interest in action sports is that they occasionally believe our sports will help them sell more branded product to more people.
