{"id":21749,"date":"2011-02-28T19:48:06","date_gmt":"2011-03-01T03:48:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=21749"},"modified":"2011-03-01T19:41:01","modified_gmt":"2011-03-02T03:41:01","slug":"snowboarder-dies-at-northstar-at-tahoe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=21749","title":{"rendered":"Snowboarder Dies At Northstar-At-Tahoe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 30-year-old snowboarder died on Sunday February 27, 2011 at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northstarattahoe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort<\/a><\/strong> according to a story in the <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sierrasun.com\/article\/20110228\/NEWS\/110229913\/1066&amp;ParentProfile=1051\" target=\"_blank\">Sierra Sun<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>. . . ski patrollers and officials with the Northstar Fire Department were alerted of an unconscious snowboarder at 10:38 a.m. Sunday; they found the man lying by a cluster of trees near the Challenger ski trail on the backside of the resort. . . The man was later pronounced dead after being transported via CareFlight to Tahoe Forest Hospital. His name is being withheld by the Placer County Sheriff&#8217;s Office until next-of-kin is notified.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The man was reportedly not wearing a helmet. This is the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/index.php?s=snowboard+death\" target=\"_blank\">16th snowboard death<\/a><\/strong> in North America since December 20, 2010. Our thoughts are with the man&#8217;s family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>[<strong>Update March 1, 2011<\/strong>: the <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2011\/03\/01\/BA9N1I1JQ8.DTL&amp;tsp=1\" target=\"_blank\">San Francisco Chronicle<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is reporting that the snowboarder was <strong>Jeffrey Halperin<\/strong>, 30, of San Francisco. &#8220;According to <strong>Paul Schmidt<\/strong>, chief deputy coroner for Nevada County, preliminary indications are that the death resulted either from the impact of hitting a tree or suffocation from landing head-first in the snow bank.
