Now a federal court in Honolulu has decided that <em>The Surfer&#8217;s Journal<\/em> profile written by <strong>Jeff Johnson<\/strong> was not libelous, according to a story in <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pacific\/stories\/2009\/03\/02\/daily69.html\" target=\"_blank\">Pacific Business News<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>After a six-day trial in U.S. District Court, the eight jurors ruled in favor of the magazine and found that neither the publisher, <strong>Steve Pezman<\/strong>, or the article\u2019s author, <strong>Jeff Johnson<\/strong>, made false statements in the 13-page magazine spread on Chapman. . . \u201cIt\u2019s a complete victory for the defendants and a strong affirmation of the media\u2019s right to write about public figures,\u201d said<strong> Jeffrey Portnoy<\/strong>, managing partner of Honolulu law firm <strong>Cades Schutte<\/strong>, which represented The Surfer\u2019s Journal. \u201cWe\u2019re tremendously excited. There aren\u2019t too many jury verdicts, especially in Hawaii, and this one is one of the few.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Looks like the truth is a savage taskmaster.
