Athletes are considered based on their needs as well as their dedication to Surfing and academic performance.<\/p>\n<p>The ISA Individual Scholarship was established in 2007 and has awarded more than 300 scholarships worth USD $248,500 to further the education and surfing careers of young surfers in need.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-50663\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Kiesha-Wakeham-450x300.jpg\" alt=\"kiesha-wakeham\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Kiesha-Wakeham.jpg 450w, http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Kiesha-Wakeham-200x133.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>At only 10-years-old, Kiesha Wakeham from Fiji dreams of becoming the best female surfer in her country<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Many previous ISA Scholarship winners have gone on to compete at national and international Surfing competitions with the help of the ISA\u2019s financial aid and five of this year\u2019s scholarship winners also participated at the 2016 VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in the Azores in September.<\/p>\n<p>Argentina\u2019s Abril Solis, Brazil\u2019s Raul Bormann, Morocco\u2019s Aboubakr Bouaouda, Peru\u2019s Daniella Rosas Vega and South Africa\u2019s Angelo Faulkner were the 2016 ISA Scholarship winners that were selected to represent their country and compete in the historic edition of the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship which set a record for athlete and country participation.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the event featured the participation of the following past ISA Scholarship winners:<\/p>\n<p>Josefina Vidueira \u2013 Chile, 2014<br \/>\nDanilo Cerda \u2013 Chile, 2012<br \/>\nEsteban Chavez \u2013 Costa Rica, 2014 &amp; 2013<br \/>\nIron Burgos \u2013 Ecuador, 2013 &amp; 2011<br \/>\nTitouan Boyer \u2013 France, 2013<br \/>\nLilly von Treuenfels \u2013 Germany<br \/>\nSummer Macedo \u2013 Hawaii, 2013<br \/>\nYuki Nakashio \u2013 Japan, 2014<br \/>\nLuis Rey Hernandez \u2013 Mexico, 2014 &amp; 2013<br \/>\nValeria Peconi \u2013 Mexico, 2014<br \/>\nJolari Carreras \u2013 Puerto Rico, 2013<br \/>\nDelfina Morosini \u2013 Uruguay, 2014<\/p>\n<p>ISA President, Fernando Aguerre, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ISA is proud to foster the development of young surfers around the globe and provide them with financial support to make their education and Surfing dreams come true. Last year, Frank tried Surfing for the first time and was hooked. He competed in his first contest this year and placed fourth in his division, outperforming surfers with many more years of experience than him.<\/p>\n<p>Frank will put his scholarship award towards his education, which is one step towards achieving his dream of attending college.<\/p>\n<p>Samukelisiswe Cele, South Africa<\/p>\n<p>Samukelisiswe Cele started surfing when she was 14. Now 17 years old, she has gone on to become one of the top female surfers in Durban. Sam is part of a small group called \u2018Zulu Girls\u2019, who act as role models to younger girls in their community. In Sam\u2019s case, she encourages other girls to start surfing.<\/p>\n<p>Sam\u2019s dream is to represent her nation of South Africa in the VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship among the world\u2019s best surfers and will use her scholarship to compete, train and improve her surfing equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Raju Silvadasan, India<\/p>\n<p>Raju Silvadasan is a 19-year-old passionate surfer from a small fishing village near Kovalam, India. While many boys his age don\u2019t stay in school, Raju has made it a goal to keep studying and receive an education.
