Oh yes, fall has returned to Southern California and with it comes the ASP World Championship Tour<\/strong>. Not the sort-of-world tour US Open of Surfing<\/strong>, but the bonafide 2014 Hurley Pro At Trestles<\/a><\/strong> (and Swatch Women’s Pro Trestles<\/a><\/strong>). Here’s what Kieren Perrow<\/strong> has to say about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrestles is a very consistent wave, and for high-performance surfing there\u2019s no better wave in the world, especially when conditions are good, so it\u2019s great to have a longer waiting period this year so we can take advantage of the best waves,\u201d said ASP Commissioner, Kieren Perrow. . . In order to do well at Lower Trestles surfers will need to show a variety of maneuvers and really push the boundaries and I can\u2019t wait to see what the ASP Top 34 and Top 17 have in store. On the men\u2019s side Gabriel Medina will be one to watch but, when the waves are big enough, Jordy Smith can be devastating. LOS ANGELES, CA\/USA (Friday, September 5, 2014): The Hurley Pro at Trestles and the Swatch Women\u2019s Pro Trestles will play host to the world\u2019s best surfers from September 9 \u2013 20, 2014 at one of the most high-performance waves on the planet, Southern California\u2019s Lower Trestles.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrestles is a very consistent wave, and for high-performance surfing there\u2019s no better wave in the world, especially when conditions are good, so it\u2019s great to have a longer waiting period this year so we can take advantage of the best waves,\u201d said ASP Commissioner, Kieren Perrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe forecast is looking great. It looks like we\u2019re going to have some really fun waves for the first few days and there\u2019s a promising outlook for the second week.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLower Trestles is the event that I\u2019m most excited for this year because it will smash the performance barriers for women\u2019s contest surfing,\u201d said Women\u2019s Commissioner, Jessi Miley-Dyer. \u201cI\u2019m looking to see progression, and I know that the girls have been practicing innovation. I’ve seen them doing it and I can\u2019t wait to see them bring it to the competition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Surfline, official forecasters for the Hurley Pro and Swatch Women\u2019s Pro Trestles, have called for:<\/p>\n

Fun and very rippable SSW Southern Hemisphere swell will prevail for the first few days of the event waiting period and we may even see some lingering SSE swell from current Hurricane Norbert at that time as well. Long range models point to a solid SW to SSW swell for the back half of the waiting period around the 16th-18th.<\/p>\n

Kelly Slater (USA), currently sitting in 2nd place on the WCT rankings, has taken six wins at Lower Trestles, more than any other surfer, with victories in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Gabriel Medina (BRA), ASP World No. 1, will be looking to better last year\u2019s 13th place finish in Southern California and cement his lead in the World Title race.<\/p>\n

ASP Women\u2019s World No. 1 Carissa Moore (HAW) will lead a field of the world\u2019s best female surfers to compete at the famed cobblestone break of Lower Trestles for the first time in WCT history. With two wins so far this season the reigning two-time ASP Women\u2019s World Champion will have to battle hard keep her place atop the rankings. Local favorite Courtney Conlogue (USA) will be eager to post a good result after a three event absence due to an ankle injury sustained in Bells Beach earlier this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI cannot wait to get the jersey back on,\u201d said Courtney Conlogue. \u201cIt\u2019s great to have an event in my own back yard at a world-class wave like Lower Trestles. I\u2019m excited that this is my first event back and there\u2019s a good swell on tap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wildcards Tanner Gudauskas (USA), Carlos Munoz (CRI) and Mahina Maeda (HAW) will compete alongside the ASP Top 34 and Top 17 respectively.<\/p>\n
