A dozen police officers on bicycles followed the group to \u201ckeep the peace and make sure everyone\u2019s safe,\u201d said Staff Sgt. Andy Norrie, adding that skateboarding on roads is \u201ctechnically illegal.\u201d . . The organizers didn\u2019t apply for a permit or give police any notice. \u201cAt this point, we\u2019re not in a position to arrest hundreds of people,\u201d Norrie said. . . Early estimates showed at least 300 skateboarders took part, he said, adding that more came later. Event organizers pegged attendance at 900.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Apparently, event founder <strong>Mike McGown<\/strong> and his crew skipped Go Skateboarding Day because it wasn&#8217;t Go Longboarding Day.
