{"id":23954,"date":"2011-06-21T15:15:42","date_gmt":"2011-06-21T22:15:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=23954"},"modified":"2011-06-21T15:21:08","modified_gmt":"2011-06-21T22:21:08","slug":"deckers-kicking-simple-to-the-curb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=23954","title":{"rendered":"Deckers Kicking Simple To The Curb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/deckers_logo.jpg\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/deckers_logo.jpg','popup','width=223,height=69,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/deckers_logo-tm.jpg\" height=\"61\" width=\"200\" border=\"1\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Deckers Logo\" \/><\/a>When <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.deckers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Deckers Outdoor Corporation<\/a><\/strong> purchased <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sanuk.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sanuk<\/a><\/strong> for $120 million last month we mentioned that the company now had an &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=23286\" target=\"_blank\">odd footwear collection<\/a><\/strong>.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Well, according to a memo reportedly sent out today (June 21, 2011) by <strong>Deckers<\/strong> CEO <strong>Angel Martinez<\/strong>, it appears that they thought their mix was getting a little strange as well and have decided to &#8220;cease distribution of the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpleshoes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Simple brand<\/a><\/strong>, effective December 31, 2011.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The memo continues:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While it is difficult to say goodbye to Simple, it no longer fits in our portfolio. We have before us a number of major opportunities that require our focus and investment, and we are consolidating our energies and resources in support of these opportunities. . . .We are at a point in our company&#8217;s growth where it&#8217;s critical that we invest in brands and initiatives with the highest global growth potential in both the short- and long-term.  With UGG Australia&#8217;s global expansion opportunities, Teva&#8217;s move into closed toe footwear, the recent Sanuk acquisition, and exciting prospects on our emerging brands, it&#8217;s become clear that focusing diligently on our very best opportunities will create the results we&#8217;re looking for to continue to fuel Deckers&#8217; growth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While we were really into several of <strong>Eric Meyer&#8217;s<\/strong> shoe designs at the beginning, we kind of lost track of the brand along the way.
