Not only are they <em>not <\/em>working to outlaw skateboarding in their city, they&#8217;re adding an amendment to their city code encouraging people to ride skateboards as an alternative form of transportation, according to a story in the <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellinghamherald.com\/2011\/06\/06\/2048558\/the-new-commuters.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bellingham Herald<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The amendment specifically identifies \u201cLow Speed Electric Vehicles, bicycles, skateboards and other forms of active transportation\u201d that will \u201cnot negatively impact the quality of the environment and contribute to the city\u2019s overall efforts in addressing issues associated with global warming and climate change.\u201d As City Councilman <strong>Marty Campbell<\/strong> said last week. \u201cIt\u2019s an inexpensive, green form of transportation that is currently being used in the city of Tacoma, so I wanted to make sure our code reflected that.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If only more narrow-minded city council members could come to the same conclusion.
