{"id":22725,"date":"2011-04-15T17:10:31","date_gmt":"2011-04-16T00:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=22725"},"modified":"2011-04-16T08:33:47","modified_gmt":"2011-04-16T15:33:47","slug":"wolf-creek-fined-in-patroller-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=22725","title":{"rendered":"Wolf Creek Fined In Patroller Death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has fined <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wolfcreekski.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wolf Creek Ski Area<\/a><\/strong> $12,000 in the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=19857\" target=\"_blank\">November 22, 2010 death of Scott Kay<\/a><\/strong>, the resort&#8217;s head of ski patrol, according to a story in the <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alamosanews.com\/v2_news_articles.php?heading=0&amp;page=72&amp;story_id=20285\" target=\"_blank\">Alamosa News<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The administration fined the area $7,000 for the lack of specific training and protocols for avalanche-control work as well as a violation of state law that required Kay to work with another employee when using explosives to mitigate avalanches. Another citation levied a $5,000 fine because Kay was not wearing a helmet when he was swept away and buried while conducting lone in-bounds avalanche mitigation Nov. 22 before the area opened.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As the head of ski patrol, shouldn&#8217;t Kay have known?
