{"id":22484,"date":"2011-03-29T16:35:49","date_gmt":"2011-03-29T23:35:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=22484"},"modified":"2011-03-29T16:42:39","modified_gmt":"2011-03-29T23:42:39","slug":"snowboarder-loses-leg-to-mammoth-snowcat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?p=22484","title":{"rendered":"Snowboarder Loses Leg To Mammoth Snowcat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Snowboarder <strong>Kathleen Willhide-Michiulis<\/strong>, 43, of Santa Clarita, California lost one leg and badly injured her other after a collision with a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mammothmountain.com\" target=\"_blank\">Mammoth Mountain<\/a><\/strong> snowcat saw her get tangled in the cat&#8217;s spinning tiller on Friday afternoon March 25, 2011, according to a story on <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/mammothtimes.com\/content\/grisly-accident-mammoth-mountain\" target=\"_blank\">Mammoth Times<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Kathleen Willhide-Michiulis<\/strong> collided with the snowcat and became entangled in the back track and the tiller \u2013 a spinning part of the cat that is designed to break up ice. The tines spin at about 1,200 rpms. . . She also suffered facial lacerations and other major injuries, including a broken femur and tibia on her other leg.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>An unnamed ski-area employee is quoted as saying, &#8220;Her leg was gone.&#8221; Willhide-Michiulis was reportedly on her last run on Mambo when the collision occurred.
