Those honored included: <strong>Torger Johnson<\/strong>, <strong>Stacy Peralta<\/strong>, <strong>Steve Caballero<\/strong>, <strong>Eric Koston<\/strong>, <strong>Bob Burnquist<\/strong>, <strong>Patti McGee<\/strong>, <strong>CR Stecyk<\/strong>, and <strong>Larry Stevenson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For everyone who has grown up in skateboarding this night was packed with emotion. It would be easy for those who were not in the room to be cynical about a group of old skateboarders getting all dewey eyed over each other, but as we looked around and saw a room filled with skate heros, living legends, and those most responsible for making skateboarding what it is today we were dumb-founded.<\/p>\n<p>For the rest of the speeches follow the jump (or <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardistan.com\/?page_id=20135\">click here for a photo gallery<\/a><\/strong>). Rarely has the professional skateboarding life been so eloquently explained.<!--more-->The award for Torger Johnson, who died in a 1983 car accident, was accepted by his brother Bay. Few in skateboarding have more experience from all sides of the industry that Cab. This wisdom showed in the depth of his feelings as he said thanks.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/fB2-2wB-em0?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/fB2-2wB-em0?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eric Koston&#8217;s<\/strong> smooth, funny &#8220;abduction&#8221; speech.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/urev06lAI2A?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/urev06lAI2A?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bob Burnquist<\/strong> flew back from Brazil just in time to accept his award.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/RHSEVZSMPtw?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/RHSEVZSMPtw?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><strong>Patti McGee<\/strong> is most famous for being the blonde girl doing the handstand on a skateboard for the May 14, 1965 cover of Life Magazine but she did much, much more for skateboarding as the first female professional skateboarder.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/DJ0fmb8Iy_o?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/DJ0fmb8Iy_o?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>When we look back it becomes obvious that more than anyone else <strong>CR Stecyk<\/strong> created what we all know of as skateboarding. Through his Dogtown stories in <strong><em>Skateboarder Magazine<\/em><\/strong> in the 70s he created the mythology that captured the minds of an entire generation.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/i8tBsNYIRQs?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/i8tBsNYIRQs?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"450\" height=\"365\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><strong>Larry Stevenson<\/strong> is the founder of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.makahaskateboards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Makaha Skateboards<\/a><\/strong> and the originator of the kicktail. If could be argued that next to Urethane wheels the kicktail was responsible for more skateboarding progression than almost any other technology.
