Our favorite E Television announcer Sal Masekela may not have kicked Diddy’s hiney (or bettered Oprah’s 1994 time of 4:29:20), but he did finish all 26.2 miles of the New York City Marathon and in so doing ended up raising $80,000 for Stoked Mentoring, according to a story on UsMagazine.com.
“One hundred percent of the money I raised will go to Stoked.org,” Masekela told Usmagazine.com before the race. After crossing the finish line, Masekela Tweeted: “Well Tweeps, I let you down. Didn’t beat @iamdiddy. Hit a wall from hell at 18. Finished around 5 hrs. Hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
To beat Diddy he needed to be under 4:15. But no matter. He finished and Stoked Mentoring wins big.
In six days Sal Masekala will be running in the New York City Marathon to raise money for Stoked Mentoring and to kick Diddy’s ass in the process (“Combs has pledged a donation if that happens”). And he told the Los Angeles Times that he is very scared.
“I’ve never been more scared to do anything in my life,” said Masekela, host of E! Entertainment’s “Daily 10” program and longtime TV host of the winter and summer X Games. “In fact, I think I’d rather paddle into 20-foot Waimea Bay by myself than run in the NYC Marathon. However, this isn’t about me. This is about the at-risk and disenfranchised teens desperately in need of the opportunities ‘Stoked Mentoring’ provides. I’m doing this for them.”
While we find it difficult to believe that Sal is that scared, we will say that we’d much rather watch him paddle out at Waimea during the Eddie than watch him pound NYC pavement, but it’s great that he’s doing it for a good cause. In Las Vegas this weekend it appears that our favorite TV announcer Sal Masekela was doing a little match-making for the recently single maybe-not-a-lesbian Lindsay Lohan.
“She focused her attentions on a good-looking young guy. He was best friends with E! Entertainment presenter Sal Masekela and the pair were quickly introduced,” the source added. . . “They went on to a comedy club before returning to Lindsay’s penthouse suite. It had a hot tub and a huge marble cocktail bar – Lindsay was joking about making the most of all the facilities,” the source added.
Let’s see now, who is Sal’s best friend? We decided while both Michael Lucas and Ian Voterri are handsome men, neither would be mistaken for being “young guys.” Any guesses?
We’d like to think of this as clearing our throats on the snow, surf, skate news front. Some of this has stacked up for months, and by getting it out of our systems we can more quickly get back to a more serious overview of any news that happens moving forward. Stoked, the organization founded by entrepreneur Steve Larosiliere and action sports announcer Sal Masekela turned 10 this year and they’re taking this as a the perfect time to update everyone on all the great things theme been doing for low-income high school students in New York City and Los Angeles. How’s this:
The Brooklyn-based organization, which has a satellite office in Los Angeles, proudly boasts a 100% high school graduation rate among program participants; roughly 30% higher than the national average for disadvantaged students in New York and California. Through their involvement with STOKED, students receive 41% more education and career development experience than traditional classroom learning provides.
That’s a pretty amazing statistic, right? For the official word from Stoked, please follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Alekesam plays at 6:30 PM at the Reading Theater in the Gaslamp District. The theater is located at 701 5th Ave, in San Diego.
