Jeremy Jones At Nixon’s 701 Social Club

by The Editors on February 3, 2019

Jeremy Jones, formerly of the Forum 8 snowboard team, is speaking at Nixon’s 701 Social Club at their headquarters in Encinitas, California this Friday afternoon February 8, 2019 to talk about that time he nearly died in a Utah backcountry avalanche. The discussion is titled What Doesn’t Kill You, Doesn’t Kill You. And everyone is invited. Here’s the back story:

On January 11, 2017, along with 10 others, Jeremy was consumed by a large avalanche in the Utah backcountry. The information, observations, and accounts that follow are the footsteps of a cautionary tale of what it takes to get out alive when things go as wrong as they possibly can, and then how to deal with the inevitable reality of the cause-and-effect. The thing is…What doesn’t kill you, doesn’t always make you stronger- It just doesn’t kill you. The choices you make during and after the battle are the things that ultimately will make you stronger…or not. You will have to decide.

If you’re in SoCal this weekend Nixon is inviting you to stop by at 3 PM when they open the doors of their showroom. Nixon’s offices are located at 701 South Coast Highway, Encinitas, California. For the official invite from Nixon co-founder Chad DiNenna, please follow the jump.

C.R. Stecyk III + Nixon = Urban Maneuvers

by The Editors on September 25, 2018

Nixon has talked Craig Stecyk into creating a collection and not surprisingly, it is one of our favorites in a long while. Here’s how they pitch it:

C.R. Stecyk III exists in the shadows, and even when he does slide into the sunlight, it rarely adds clarity. A pioneer of the Dogtown skate ethos, Stecyk has helped shape modern skateboarding in more ways than imaginable: through videos, writing, art installations, and co-founded Juxtapoz Art magazine, among others. A widely-acknowledged street art progenitor, Stecyk’s contributions to the counterculture are so engrained in society that the Smithsonian permanently houses some of his work.

The capsule includes a watch, a camera bag, and some other cool stuff. Sadly, there are only 100 watches and bags world wide (it’s limited). So if you want one you better hurry to an exclusive Nixon retailer. For the details, click the link.

Nixon + Metallica = Time To Rock Out

by The Editors on August 28, 2018

Nixon has announced a collab with a band from the 90s called Metallica on an eight watch collection that was “born of long-shared mutual respect for upstarts who buck the system and wind up changing it for good.” The watches, which will be available on November 5, 2018, feature band logos, scary crosses, lightning bolts, and even some Pushead art. If you need a wrist watch that tells time, and love throwing up those horns to the soundtrack of your youth, then this just may be your collection. Click the link for more.

Nixon + Santa Cruz = Skate Graphic Watches

by The Editors on October 5, 2017

Nixon and Santa Cruz Skateboards have partnered to create a limited-edition collection of watches with classic Santa Cruz board graphics right on the face.

Nixon’s classic Time Teller is reimagined through the Santa Cruz lens, culminating in designs that are true to each brand. The iconic graphics featured within the collection include: the ‘Screaming Hand,’ the Rob Roskopp Arm, Jason Jessee Lady of Guadalupe and the Santa Cruz logo.

The watches are designed with an all stainless steel build and feature custom casebacks, co-branding, and exclusive packaging. You can pick one up beginning October 9, 2017 for $125 at Nixon retail stores, select retailers and, of course, online. If forced to choose, we’d grab the Roskopp. . . just saying’.

Nixon’s Greek Surf Mission

by The Editors on June 5, 2017

To anyone who’s spent a day staring out the window of a Minoan Line ferry looking for surf in the Agean Sea this vid will seem like fiction. Yes, we spotted wave with potential off the coast of Delos, one fall during a storm, but nothing like what Nixon surfers Marlon Lipke, Yannick De Jager and Gony Zubizarreta found on this trip.

Chances to score are always very low considering the consistency of swells and the difficulty to predict conditions. Timing is key, local connexions are priceless. All they needed was a call: a friend and local shaper guaranteed them that the conditions displayed on the weather forecast would turn the coast into an idyllic playground, and it did.

Guess so. This whole edit was snagged in one day, and when the day was done, so was the surf.

Nixon Finally Gets Smart With Android

by The Editors on March 16, 2016

nixon_mission

Today (March 16, 2016), Nixon is at Switzerland’s world famous watch and jewelry expo Baselworld to rollout The Mission, their first ever smartwatch powered by Google’s Android Wear and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 system-on-a-chip. In otherwords, a real-deal Android smartwatch designed specifically with action sports in mind.

The Mission features a suite of custom applications tailored to action sports, as well as industry-leading durability and a category-first 10-ATM (100 meter) water-resistance rating. In addition to the full capabilities of the Android WearTM platform and apps, the smartwatch introduces Nixon’s custom Mission app powered by Surfline and Snocountry. The Mission app places live conditions information at a glance of the wrist and features a custom activity-tracking application developed in partnership with Trace, the leader in action sports activity tracking.

And with built-in GPS, this watch could be a prime  replacement for the Garmin fenix 3 that is currently occupying our wrist. But we won’t be sure about that until we get one to test out for a couple weeks. For the official word from Nixon, please follow the jump.
