Monster Children’s Team Average

by The Editors on June 8, 2013

Dylan Rieder, Natas, Greyson Fletcher, Ryan Wilson, Jack Fardell, Alex Gray, and Chippa Wilson apparently went to New Zealand and did their thing. Monster Children was there to hop on board and document a little of it. It looks like Team Average 2.0.

Desillusion’s This Is Dylan

by The Editors on November 26, 2012

Desillusion Magazine, the beautifully over-done print magazine (that is everything Monster Children dreams of one day becoming) teamed with with Analog and Alien Workshop to produce This Is Dylan— A 10 minute gaze into the life and time of Dylan Rieder.

At only 24, Dylan’s name is already well engraved in the history of skateboarding, thanks to his style, his personality and his incredible gift; that of skating fast and skating well. The skateboard mag voted him as 2006’s years best am award, but since then he turned pro, came out with an insane part in Mind Field, and has been blowing minds with his steely tricks all across the world. After a rather tormented period, where he tasted the dark side of street life, and where he found himself literally catapulted to the front of the scene, Dylan got back up again, brushed himself off and with incredible maturity, imposed his own style, a style which quickly turned him into an icon for an entire generation of skateboarders.

True.

Huston On Top At Street League 3 Qualifiers

by The Editors on July 14, 2012

Nyjah Gd-O

No one should be surprised to learn that Nyjah Huston was once again on top of the qualifying rounds of Street League 3 from Glendale, Arizona tonight. What was sup rising was how close the top four skaters were. Only .5 of a point separated the top three.

Qualifying in second was Luan Oliveira, with some incredibly technical tricks like a Switch Frontside Flip and a Nollie Backside Flip in the Big section. Third place qualifier was Paul Rodriguez with an overall score of 33.1. Rounding out the qualifying spots were Chris Cole, Torey Pudwill and Ryan Sheckler, who all had solid days of skating

Competition continues tomorrow with the finals live on ESPN2 at 4 PM PST. For the complete official results, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Circe Wallace’s Action Agent Tendency

by The Editors on September 19, 2011

164McSweeney’s Internet Tendency skateboarding columnist Joel Rice interviewed Wasserman Media Group Senior Vice President Circe Wallace to get a better understanding the wild, independent world of corporate skateboarding, and as usual she makes it all sound perfectly logical — especially the “sexy” part:

The characters are attractive! They have chiseled features and they dress flamboyantly! And, like, they’re sexy and they’re good looking kids! I mean Dylan Rieder… It doesn’t get much sexier than that! It’s like a boy band but better because they are actually doing something manly and it’s really aggressive, super-expressive and athletically intense!

Okay. We get the Dylan thing, but when she starts talking about drinking “Lucky Stripes” with Jake Phelps and Julien Stranger at 14 we kind of lost our way. But you should read the whole thing anyway.
