Kennedy Charged In Maigetter’s Death

by The Editors on February 7, 2018

Pro skateboarder Cory Kennedy has been formally charged with “vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and reckless driving” in the death of Preston Maigetter on August 30, 2017 by King County Prosecutors, according to a story in the Vashon Beachcomber.

The incident report states that several empty beer cans were in the back seat. Initially, Kennedy claimed that he had had just one drink hours earlier, but a portable breath test showed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of just over .10 and inconsistent with that statement. A blood test drawn three hours after the crash showed his BAC was approximately .099 and consistent with being higher than .11 within two hours of the collision and well over the legal limit of .08.

Kennedy’s arraignment is scheduled for February 14, 2018 in Seattle, Washington’s King County courthouse. Our thoughts are with both families and their friends.

RIP: Preston Maigetter

by The Editors on September 1, 2017

The skate world lost a great human when Preston Maigetter, a staff filmer for Thrasher Magazinewas killed in a single car collision on Vashon Island, Washington the evening of August 30, 2017.

The driver of the car, pro skater Cory Kennedy, 26, was arrested on Thursday morning, August 31, 2017 on suspicion of vehicular homicide, according to a story in the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber. Kennedy was released on Friday pending a charging decision.

An early Thursday morning press release from the King County Sheriff’s office stated that just before 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, a homeowner in the area near where Bank Road turns into Thorsen Road, heard a “loud crash” in front of his residence. When sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene, they found a single-vehicle accident where a car had collided with a guardrail and tree — authorities believe Kennedy may have failed to negotiate the sharp curve.

Maigetter leaves behind a wife and two kids. He was 45. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of everyone involved.
