BILLABONG HOSTS 14TH ANNUAL COSMIC CREEK PRESENTED BY SUBARU FEATURING FREE DONAVON FRANKENREITER CONCERT

IRVINE, CA – (August 30, 2013) – California’s famed counterculture surf festival hits Salt Creek on Saturday, September 14, as Billabong hosts the 14th Annual Cosmic Creek Surf Contest presented by Subaru. A classic event with a cult following in South Orange County, the Cosmic Creek is a family-friendly beach happening built around a retro-style surf contest, leading up to a FREE Donavon Frankenreiter concert on the lawn at Salt Creek Beach Park in Dana Point.

The Cosmic day begins with a fun surf comp that celebrates the groovy and inventive vibe that went along with the boards and styles of the Seventies and Eighties. Competitors will be assigned different classic boards at random and must adapt with each heat. With everything from twin fins to stings to Pipeline pintails underfoot, what these throwback boards may lack in modern-day performance, they make up for in style and inspiration.

Divisions in this year’s Cosmic Creek run the gamut from the “Cosmic Children” group who may be pushed into waves by their parents all the way up to the “Rolling Stones” who must be at least 50 years of age. The list of winners emerging after a fun day in the waves is far beyond most local soul events, featuring names like Rob Machado, Timmy Curran, Chris Ward, Dave Rastovich, Yadin Nichol, Tom Curren and Kelly Slater

The contest is open to the public and runs from 8AM to 4PM on Saturday, September 14th. To enter the event, download an entry form at http://www.billabong.com/cosmiccreek/, and turn in signed entry forms with payment to Killer Dana surf shop. For entry questions call (949) 489-8380.
