FBI Says They Caught Snowboarder Bandit

by The Editors on May 7, 2012

FranksIt looks like the Snowboarder Bandit has made his last run, according to a story in the Desert Sun. Michael Franks, a 29-year-old Riverside, California man, was arrested on Friday May 5, 2012 after reportedly attempting to rob two banks in near Palm Springs.

Authorities believe Franks is the Snowboarder Bandit, a bank robber who earned his nickname by committing thefts while wearing clothing often used during snowboarding. . . Eimiller said he tried to rob the US Bank inside the Ralphs grocery store at 42-150 Washington Street in Bermuda Dunes about 11:20 a.m. Friday. . . The suspect handed a bank teller a note demanding money, but left after the worker handed it back, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

That’s all it took? Oddly, the bandit got caught on his unlucky 13th robbery attempt.
