Jones Snowboards wants everyone to be safer in the backcountry apparently, and they’re doing it with an all-new Snowpulse compatible 30l R.A.S. Ready backcountry pack.
Weighing in at 6.7lbs when loaded with the R.A.S. (Removable Airbag System), the new Jones 30L R.A.S. Ready Pack has all the technical features of the standard 30L pack combined with additional pockets that hold the Snowpulse R.A.S. system. The 30L’s R.A.S. system pockets allow you to use the pack with or without the airbag installed and utilizes compressed air instead of nitrogen, so you can easily deploy the bag for storage before a plane trip, and then easily refill the canister at your destination.

Burton is continuing their efforts to get kids started young with their Riglet Park program. Parents can drop their kids off in the morning and pick up a snowboarder later in the day. Kids in the Tahoe region have had the amazing Star Wars park at Sierra at Tahoe for going on two seasons and now east coast kids are getting their own twist on the program with a new Toy Story park at Jay Peak.
“Burton is stoked to partner with Jay Peak to bring Disney·Pixar Toy Story-themed elements and products to our newest Burton Riglet Park,” said Jeff Boliba, VP of Global Resorts, Burton Snowboards. “The park will add a new level of entertainment to snowboarding by immersing budding snowboarders into the world of Disney·Pixar’s Toy Story, where fun and adventure is the name of the game. It’s a must-see destination for families and kids who want to learn how to snowboard this winter.”
The Riglet Learning system costs $99 a day and is the best way to get kids aged 3-6 out snowboarding. For a list of all the features and a breakdown of why parents need to get their kids to Jay Peak, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
Sales of snowboards and snowboard equipment have slipped 21% over the last four years, while sales of skis have climbed 3% in the same period, according to SnowSports Industries America, a trade group that tracks the $3.5-billion snow sports and apparel industry. . . Baby boomers aren’t the only ones bailing. Last season alpine skiing replaced snowboarding as the most popular snow sport among kids ages 6 to 17, according to the trade group.
We’re reminded of something crusty surfers are always overheard saying, “Fewer surfers means more waves for me.”
The Snowboard, was described by the seller as an original Burton 140 Performer “Black Widow” Experimental Series. Made in 1983 and ridden by Burton Team rider, Bob Novak. . . This is the second-time in the past year that we’ve tracked a Burton exceeding five-figures.
There were 44 bids on the board and it was purchased by an active ebayer. Damn, that’s a lot of money for a snowboard. Makes us wonder if someone is trying to jack up the collectable snowboards market. A couple friends working together could make old board skyrocket in price. But no one would do that. That wouldn’t be right.

The organizers of the Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic have decided that even though they have a good swell coming, they will hold off on their contest to support the likelihood of the Mavericks Invitational going off this Sunday, January 20, 2013.
“As much as we hate to pass on a good swell,” said John Forse, Nelscott’s founder. “We have decided in the interest of cohesiveness of the big wave brotherhood and the Big Wave World Tour to not run the Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic this weekend and throw all our support behind the Mavericks Invitational that should have great waves for the best big wave surfers in the world. We still have 2+ more months in the waiting period and hope the surf gods will reward us with our own epic swell.”
Sounds like a pretty smart thing to do, all things considered.
At last year’s SIA Trade Show in Denver one of the hottest tickets was the 686 Lights Out boxing matches between industry heavy weights. Anyone who thought these matches would be “staged” was in for a big surprise when everyone beat themselves silly (check last year’s event here).
For 2013 686 is doing it all again. Same place, same night, same staff. Danny Kass will referee and Dingo will be the ring announcers. All the proceeds from the event go to SOS Outreach.
It’s official. Pat Moore is now representing the VeeCo brand all around: outerwear, snowboards, and accessories.
“We are so stoked to have Pat on the team,” says Volcom VP of Snowboarding Billy Anderson. “He is one of the hardest working snowboarders in the industry; his style speaks for itself and he can ride any kind of terrain. Pat is a true snowboarder.”
Pat’s most recent work can be see above in his X Games Real Snow entry. Blamo! Follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]
