Vans today announced that they have signed snowboarder Pat Moore to the Vans Global Snow Team (pictured right in Silverton, Colorado).
“Being here in Silverton for Vans’ 20th anniversary in snow is such a humbling experience,” Moore said. “Vans’ passion and commitment to sick product and the snowboard lifestyle has spanned nearly my entire life. In the last 20 years, Vans has sponsored some of the most influential snowboarders in the world, from Jamie Lynn, Palmer, Sean Johnson to the new legends like Mark Landvik. I’m honored to be a part of a team that holds such a legacy.”
Stance is proud to have signed up straight shooter Scotty Wittlake to their “Punks & Poets” crew. Here’s what they’re staying about it:
To say that Scotty is a mystery is an understatement. He’s the kind of guy that other guys want to be like, and ride like. Riding non-stop all winter after working the fishing trade in Alaska all summer, his vision and example of living off the land and in the most adventurous ways possible, makes those of us sitting at a desk jealous daily.
Look for a signature Wittlake sock coming later this year.
There were stacks of new split boards showing at the 2013 SIA Show in Denver, but one of the lightest, smoothest and best looking was the new Jones Snowboards Ultracraft. Here’s what Jeremy Jones is saying about it:
“Making lighter split boards without sacrificing performance and durability has been on my radar since launching our original line four years ago,” says Jones. “This is the answer. The Ultracraft’s design process and exclusive new lightweight mix of high tech materials are game changers in split board construction. We’re stoked to launch the Ultracraft as the first evolution of limited edition products sold only in our EPICenter shops around the world.”
We held it today and it looks amazing. As it should for $1,200. For the official word and all the details follow the jump.. [click to continue…]
The US Open of Snowboarding Championships are at Vail this year. Remember? Not Vermont. Vail, Colorado. Those V words are confusing and Burton would like to remind everyone that the world’s winningest halfpipe shredder and 2012 US Open halfpipe champ Shaun White will be riding the Vail pipe (not a Vermont pipe) to defend his title.
“The US Open is one of snowboarding’s legendary events, and some of my best competition memories are of competing at Vail, so for me, bringing the two together is all time,” said Shaun White. “I’m excited to compete in Vail’s new pipe and see everyone come out for the next evolution of this contest.”
Mr. White, however, isn’t the only one confirmed for this event. Louie Vito, Greg Bretz, and Kazuhiro Kokubo will be jocking the pipe as well. It sounds like the snowboard event of the season, doesn’t it? Follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]
Gary Rogers watches some girls skate. Then he talks about booty jiggle and gets to the rest of the news which includes at least one mention of Shane O’Neill, Vincent Alvarez, and Jake Donnelly.
Look at all the fresh gear Nixon has coming for Spring 2013. . . oh, and Lisa Anderson and a bunch of dudes are in this edit as well. Our favorite? The Black & Lum Collection, of course.

Look who moved to LA? Westlife Distribution, the parent company 686, has named Brent Sandor as their new Director of Marketing. Sandor was most recently brand director at Spy.
“At Westlife, the family is tight. We have a history of keeping heads for a while and I’m stoked that we’ve found someone talented in both the creative and business realms. Sandor has proven himself from the ground up and psyched to have him on. He’s the type of dude that can hang all night long with the young guns and also be the first one up for a 6am biz meeting,” said Mike West, President/CEO.
Seems that’s a good trait these days. For the official world from Westlife, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
Snowboarder Magazine has named Nicolas Müller and Hana Beaman their Snowboarders of the Year (which also happens to be an issue of their magazine). But it wasn’t just the editors who picked the riders. No, no. It was a pro snowboarder popularity judging panel that included the following riders:
Danny Kass, Scotty Lago, Gretchen Bleiler, Torstein Horgmo, Pat Moore, Leanne Pelosi, Eero Ettala, Halldor Helgason, Peter Line, Kevin Jones, Jussi Oksanon, Dan Brisse, Danny Davis, Jake Blauvelt, Big Mountain Jeremy Jones, Travis Rice and David Benedek.
You going to argue with any of them? We’re not either. For the official details, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
Japan Journals is a bit of snowboard travelogue promoting the benefits of snowboarding in Japan.
In this episode the crew is reminded just how deep the snow gets in Japan.. . . We go to Minakami and Nozawa Onsen, two well renowned regions close to Tokyo. Both areas dish up a decent amount of snow and have interesting terrain to back it up.
As this video points out rather clearly. Snowboarding in Japan is fun.
