Tony Hawk #1 Sports App On iTunes

by The Editors on January 15, 2010

Tonyhawktricks

Tony Hawk: Trick Tips, an iPhone app that we haven’t even checked out yet, is reportedly the number one spot in Top Paid Sports on the iTunes App Store, according to a recent press release.

Hawk has been hailed for his creative online interaction with his fan base and this week reached a Twitter following of over 2 million. . . . “I am thrilled to be able to reach both new riders and loyal fans with these new apps. While I wish I could personally teach everyone who wants to learn. But for now, this is the next best thing,” Hawk said.

Wonder if people think this app will help them play Tony Hawk Ride?

Art Brewer At Annenberg Space For Photography

by The Editors on January 15, 2010

Asp Brewer PortraitOn Thursday January 21, 2010 surf photographer Art Brewer will be presenting a lecture Surf’s Up: 40 Years from the Surf and Sand at Los Angeles, California’s Annenberg Space For Photography. Unfortunately, it is already sold out, but here a little taste of what we’re both going to miss.

Surf’s Up journals 40 years of Art Brewer’s surfing photography as he’s documented surfing, chasing the world’s best surfer and waves around the globe. He will share his perspective from the line up in the surf and on the beach. . . Brewer’s photographs are known for speaking with penetrating truth, enlivened with an edgy wit. His unique colloquial voice is capable of a restrained grandeur evoking an iconic sense of “witnessing” that brings us to the forefront of our attention, alerted to something transcendent in each captured moment…

Wish someone would have told us about this before it was sold out.

Ken “Skindog” Collins had the VeeCo booth packed all day long.

Each winter sales rep organizations like the Western Winter Sales Rep Association host pre-shows where snowboard retailers can check out next year’s products without having to travel too far.

Today, we stopped by the WWSRA’s NorCal Pre-Show at Cal Expo in Sacramento, California and were lucky enough to get out with some photos of what’s coming up for winter 2011.

Are You Ready For Machotaildrop?

by The Editors on January 14, 2010

Looks like the crew behind Bangmaster General’s Warning have completed their first feature film Machotaildrop featuring Steve Olson, Rick McCrank, and others. Sadly we haven’t seen it yet, but appears to be epic in a seriously jacked up way.

by The Editors on January 14, 2010

As Surf Mavs Pete 576ESPN Action Sports‘ Ric Bucher has written a great overview of all the problems facing the Mavericks surf contest, Mavericks Surf Ventures, and what has happened since event founder Jeff Clark was ousted as contest director last summer.

While there is not a whole lot new in the story, it is a good overview for those who may not have been following along. Check it out.

H.R. 3190 Passes House Judiciary Committee

by The Editors on January 14, 2010

A bill that would “effectively ban manufacturers from dictating minimum prices to dealers” has been approved by the House Judiciary Committee according to a story on Sports One Source.

The Discount Pricing Consumer Protection Act of 2009, or H.R. 3190, was passed out of the full committee. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Henry Johnson, D-GA, currently has only two co-sponsors, including Rep. John Conyers Jr, D-MI. The Senate has yet to vote on a companion bill (S 148) sponsored by Sen. Herb Kohl, former head of the Kohl’s Department Store chain.

Will be interesting to see how this effects snowboard pricing next year.
