Vancouver Snowboard Venue Already Dangerous

A 64-year-old man working on the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic snowboard venue at Cypress Mountain reportedly fell from a 50-foot-high scaffolding on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, according to a story in the BClocalnews.

On Tuesday the 64-year-old, who came to work on venue the from overseas, fell off scaffolding approximately 50 feet high, said fire chief Martin Ernst. . . Ernst believes the individual is still in serious condition.

Ouch. Please remind us not to be running around at work on scaffolding when we’re 64.

Boreal Opens Right Behind Loveland

With a trace of natural snow in the higher elevations of California’s Donner Summit, Boreal Mountain Resort fired their lifts up today (Friday October 9, 2009) to be the first resort in California to open according to the LA Times. Just in time for this weekend’s Jibassic Public Invitational.

Dead Surfer Found Attached To Surfboard

Article-0-0352C52C0000044D-995 468X311A surfer was found dead this morning drifting in the water still attached to his surfboard near Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset, England, according to a story in the Daily Mail.

A spokesman for Portland Coastguards said: ‘A member of the public had seen what they thought was a body on Kimmeridge Slipway.. . . A coastguard helicopter and rescue team were tasked to attend the scene and confirmed there was a body of a man in the water. . . ‘He was a surfer and was still attached to his board. We are unsure how long he was in the water but yesterday’s sea conditions were not very good for surfing.

There are probably much worse ways to go.

Skateboarder In Skeleton Mask Robs Store

In Jefferson County, Alabama a man with in a skeleton mask robbed a convenience store and then escaped on a skateboard, according to a story on Alabama.com.

“It seems like Halloween is getting here early,” said sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Randy Christian.. . Deputies were called to the Kangaroo Express on Old Springville Road in northeast Jefferson County. The cashier told them a man pointed a semi-automatic stainless steel handgun at her and demanded money from the register. . . .He was wearing a black hood and black gloves, Christian said. He fled traveling west on Dug Hollow Road on a skateboard.

In Alabama skateboards are probably faster than most cars. . .

Burton Yanks Another Brand Back To VT

Anon LogoWord was flowing late last week, but now it’s official. Anon optics is the latest Burton brand to pull up its SoCal stakes and get sucked back to the mothership in Burlington, Vermont.

Under the leadership of anon Vice President of Product, Jeff Gilberti, the transition will be complete by early November and will allow anon to strengthen its focus on its goggle business and invest more in developing and marketing great winter products. anon plans to expand its staff in Vermont with the addition of brand and sales management positions.

Seth Wescott Gets Robbed Off BX Course

Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott lost a bunch of videos when his house was broken into sometime in September 2009, according to a story on WBZtv.com.

Chief Scott Nichols of the Carrabassett Valley police tells the Portland Press Herald it’s believed the burglary occurred sometime in September while Wescott was out of the country.

According to police, the videos have no monetary value, but “are of “extreme importance to Mr. Wescott.” Wonder what else was on those videos?

New Venice Skatepark Now Officially Open

The LA Times (and many of our Twitter friends) report that the Venice, California skateboard park is now officially open to the public.

The $3.4-million skate park was paid for by the sale of surplus city property in Venice and development fees, and did not draw from the general fund. It will be named after legendary Z-Boy skater Dennis “Polar Bear” Agnew, who died about five years ago, said Ger-I Lewis, the skate park coordinator and executive director of the Venice Surf and Skateboard Assn.
