Guess we’re going to have to wait until June 12, 2009 to see how this whole Street Dreams thing plays out, though it is kind of funny to see a bunch of skate celebs playing themselves in a “fictionalized” Flashdance world of skaters trying to make it while still staying true to their art. Until then, here is another trailer.
At Zumiez’s annual shareholders meeting yesterday May 27, 2009 CEO Rick Brooks took time to restate the obvious regarding the current retail business climate, according to The Seattle Times.
“This is the toughest economic environment I’ve ever worked in,” Brooks said Wednesday. . . in Everett. . . He said Zumiez has been opening fewer new stores to reflect its diminished sales outlook, though its overall strategy remains the same. The retailer sells clothing, equipment and shoes inspired by board sports. . . “We’re staying true to who we are,” he said more than once, noting the company will maintain “strong training programs” for store employees and emphasize products that can’t be found elsewhere at the mall.
The one things Brooks wouldn’t talk about was the proposed purchase of Active Ride Shop saying only that Zumiez is “very early in the due-diligence process.”
The Internal Revenue Service has filed an objection to Source Interlink’s plan of reorganization, claiming the magazine publisher and distributor owes more than $10 million in unpaid taxes. . . The objection, filed last week in Delaware’s U.S. Bankruptcy Court, said Source’s reorganization plan cannot be confirmed because it does not ensure adequate payment of the IRS’ tax claims. The IRS said Source and its affiliates have not filed a “staggering” number of federal tax returns.
What does it mean when you can’t even get your bankruptcy plans confirmed?
The United States is becoming more and more like Honduras every day. Want to skip a security inspection, just pay the man in charge.
Now, thanks to a company called Clear those with a little extra cash can buy a card containing their “biometric security information” allowing them to skip regular airport security lanes and zip through a special lane just for them. And it’s only $89.
“SIA is excited about the opportunity to offer its members this additional savings and to add Clear as one of many SIA membership benefits. This partnership will help to ease travel stress and reduce travel time for members throughout the year and for next year’s SIA Snow Show in Denver,” said David Ingemie, SIA President. “SIA works hard to provide membership benefits to members that improve their business operations. These benefits range from research to shipping services and now include Clear.”
Personally, we’re not that into turning over our fingerprints and iris scans to any “independent security firms” just to save three minutes at airport security, but that’s just us. Follow the jump for all the details. [click to continue…]
Looking to sell 1,800 copies of a surf book about pipeline at 90% off, anyone interested in an opportunity buy? http://www.experiencepipeline.com/
Apparently Quinn Haber’s “coin-toss book”Experience Pipeline isn’t moving as well as the publishers would like. At 90% off the whole run would be about $2,500. Any takers?
Before making an offer it would probably be a good idea to watch this video . . .
Our favorite Quinn quote: “I wrote this book and I’ve been reading it for about two years now and I still come across new plots, new endings, new situations. . . ” Really?
Flow Snowboards has hired OG skater/web designer Owen Neider as their new Chief Web Developer:
Owen . . . had several pro model skateboards with Madrid, has been on Indy Trucks and Powell Wheels for years. Owen’s work history includes 5 years as DC Shoes Web Development Director. He spent his last 3 years owning and running Creative Deployment.
Former vert skateboarder Pete Davidson apparently believes that the skateboarding industry should put away childish things and grow up. Not that we disagree with him, but has he seen the Dew Tour and the X Games? How much cleaner/blander does he want it?
Hurley is pretty excited about the coverage they got recently from “the print mags.”
Because as much media we now consume in this ever-exploding digital age, a cover shot still trumps it all. . . There’s something about the permanence of a cover. How it will sit on coffee tables and stocked in library shelves for decades to come. How — no matter what happens — it can never be deleted, “crash” or be taken back. . . .The Hurley team still knows the value of a good cover shot, which is why they worked extra hard this spring and hit the jackpot: gracing the front page of the four major American surf magazines in one month.
Gee, wonder how that could all happen in one month?
Reality Wanted, a site that purports to solicit jobs in the raging reality TV industry is looking for some “extreme sports experts” to add a little professional color to a new show. . . but they only want professionals.
Must have participated in the sport on some type of professional level or have been a journalist covering the sport for a reputable publication. Looking for experts in motorcycle/auto extreme sports, snowboarding, snowmobiling, skiing, bmx, speed boats, skateboarding, harness racing, para sailing, sky diving, MMA and rodeo.
Seems like we know some people who would be perfect for this gig. . . well, except extreme sport of harness racing part.
