Postsurf Power Rankings Post Bells

by The Editors on April 17, 2009

Miky.Jpg

Who needs Surfline.com when we can get the ASP Power Rankings straight from Lewis Samuels himself on Postsurf.com without the goofy Flash clicks and clangs.

OK, kids. The Power Rankings live on – on Postsurf, for now. I’ll be putting up a handful a day over the course of the next week. Let’s start with the bottom dwellers.

Nice to see him keeping the Power Ranking flame war alive.

Zumiez Jumps 23% On Upgrade

by The Editors on April 17, 2009

Zumiez NotaglineWe’ve been watching Zumiez lately and thinking about all that cash and no debt and thinking it might be a great stock to invest in when Keybanc Capital goes and gives it an upgrade sending it rocketing up 23.5 percent today. Here’s what they said:

We continue to have a high degree of confidence in the long-term prospects of both the action sports industry and Zumiez’s goal to grow its domestic store base to roughly 800 units,’ the firm wrote, adding that more normalized spring weather patterns in April relative to March could help Zumiez post better-than-expected April same-store sales results.

When we look at their history, there could be a lot of upside.

Michael Tomson’s Missing Ring

by The Editors on April 17, 2009

Michael TomsonGotcha founder Michael Tomson had a “gold, ruby and diamond encrusted ring valued at approximately $25,000” stolen from his Laguna Beach, California home last weekend, according to a story in the Orange County Register.

Sgt. Jason Kravetz of the Laguna Beach Police Department was able to confirm that a woman listing the surfer’s Laguna Beach residence had filed a complaint at the department’s front desk Monday, but that an official police report has yet to be drafted. . . “I can tell you that a ring was taken in the theft, and it is valued at $25,000,” Kravetz said. “It’s unknown if it’s a wedding ring.” . . The police logs indicated that the ring contained 2.28 karats in diamonds and .3 karats in rubies.

Bummer.

Tony’s Twitter Tweet Trophy

by The Editors on April 17, 2009

SportsmusThis is old news to anyone who follows Tony Hawk on Twitter, but last night he casually tweeted that a sports museum that he had loaned some memorabilia to had just gone bankrupt and the court wanted him to pay $1,500 to get his stuff back. Apparently, his stuff was being treated as an asset.

Today, CNBC sports business reporter Darren Rovell blogged about the tweet today and added a little detail:

We’re not 100 percent sure, but we think Hawk is talking about the Sports Museum of America, a national sports museum that was based near Wall Street and was actually open for seven months before shutting down in February. . .The museum’s parent company filed for bankruptcy the following month with $56 million in assets and $177 million in debt. The museum was displaying Hawk’s second-place trophy from a 1979 youth skateboarding competition.

Hopefully, Tony will get his trophy back. He won it once already and he shouldn’t have to win it again.

Parko Whoops The Wildcard At Bells

by The Editors on April 16, 2009

Parkinson2850Bells09Kirstinl.Jpg

We’re not sure if it was just our fascination with Kelly Slater and the sadly absent Andy Irons or if the new ASP format just sucks. Either way, the Rip Curl Pro at Bells was one of the most dreadfully boring surf contests we’ve seen in a while. It seemed like the waiting period went on forever, and the guys were never, ever surfing. If it hadn’t been for Twitter we would have missed the entire contest.

We don’t mean to take anything away from winner Joel Parkinson, or from wildcard giant slayers Adam Robertson and Owen Wright. They were all killing it in some great waves. It’s just hard to stay interested in anything for two whole weeks. And we don’t think we’re alone.

Follow the jump for the ASP press release that is already posted on every surf site in the world.

Kelly Slater’s Newest Shaping Lotion

by The Editors on April 16, 2009

778 L.JpgAh, not so sure about his recent surfboard shapes, but when it comes to body lotion we trust Kelly Slater, especially his new Limited Edition Superbly Restorative Body Lotion created in collaboration with Kiehl’s. Here are just some of the details:

100% of proceeds up to $100,000 will support Waterkeeper Alliance, Helps improve skin’s resilience and texture, Helps enrich skin’s moisture barrier and most importantly it leaves skin soft with a healthy-looking sheen, and Formulated with a naturally-derived preservative system.

The label on the bottle features Kelly doing a big ol’ bottom turn. Wonder if Kalani has been giving Kelly some post heat-loss rub-downs with this stuff? The lotion costs $55 for 16 ounces and is all for a good cause.

The Brand New Businessmen

by The Editors on April 16, 2009

Sheckler.Jpg

Entrepreneur magazine checks in with the raddest businessmen on the planet: Ryan Sheckler, bmxer Dave Mirra, and Paul Rodriguez to see how things are hanging. From Sheckler’s “Ferrari F430 parked outside,” to Mirra’s “multimillion-dollar business” to P.Rod’s “shoe boutique” the magazine makes it look like getting paid isn’t so bad afterall.

“I’m a skateboarder,” Sheckler says. “I’ll always be just a skateboarder. But I have these awesome opportunities that I’ll never let go by. It started with skateboarding. It’ll end with skateboarding. The things I do in between are my choice. The haters can say what they want, and the people who are my friends can realize what I’m doing and realize the empire I’m building for myself, and tag along and have some fun.”

Now really, who would hate on Ryan?
