Flip Blitzes North To NHS

by The Editors on December 3, 2008

NhsIt took a primer from Boil The Ocean to get us headed in the right direction on this one but it seems Bob Denike and the NorCal skate mob has has picked up another brand as Flip becomes part of NHS’s “brand roster.”

Bob Denike, President and CEO of NHS had this to say, “The addition of Flip strengthens our position to be the #1 skateboard supplier in the industry. The NHS strategy is simple; strong brands across all categories, innovative product development and working with the best pro skaters; past, present, and future. The Flip brand together with the global Flip team are a powerful and welcome addition to NHS. And frankly, it’s about f*#king time!”

It’s all just painted plywood anyway, right?

Me, Myself, And That Really Old Pro Snowboarder

by The Editors on December 3, 2008

We love Todd Richards and are we’re really glad he’s out humorously self-promoting himself in a new film. But what we’re most looking forward to is the part about how he could have won the first gold medal in the Olympic Halfpipe but he choked. Is that in there somewhere?

A Flaming Bag Of Crap Rises From The Ashes

by The Editors on December 3, 2008

SackSeems like only yesterday we were asking someone whatever happened to that site that we’ve been accused of completely and utterly ripping off and reapportioning? And what do you know? Sacklunch.com is back online, although currently without its world famous forum.

. . . that last thing we remember it was sometime near the end of February 2007. Our corporate masters decided to play some good ol’ fashion business hardball and ended up giving us a “time-out,” and sending us straight to our room with no dinner.

Apparently, their “time-out” is over and all that content is back online. . . even the Ben Marcus’s manic travel writing.

Welcome back. We missed you and all but we’re not sure there’s room for both of us.

RVCA’s Big Movca

by The Editors on December 2, 2008

Dpt-Rvca12022008The Daily Pilot, “serving Newport Beach & Costa Mesa, California” has discovered that RVCA is moving into a new space next month (the old Paul Frank space) and they did something we didn’t do last month: they got the low-down straight from founder Pat Tenore.

His determination to stay on the Westside of Costa Mesa — a location that has served as an incubator for several of the biggest surf and skateboard fashion companies in the country — led him to the 70,000-square-foot Paul Frank building less than a mile from his present address. . . . “We want to stay close to where we started and close to the beach,” Tenore said. “And it’s really hard to find a building in this area because a lot of the area is being turned into residential.”

Right on, but what about the bowl?

763Px-Snow Crystals

Think of trillions and trillions of these flakes piled up. Trippy.

Snow flakes highly magnified by a low-temperature scanning electron microscope (SEM). The colours are called “pseudo colours”, they are computer generated and are a standard technique used with SEM images.

Fingerboarding The iPhone

by The Editors on December 1, 2008

Touchgrind is a new $4.99 skateboarding game for the iPhone. The guys at Gizmodo gave it aa run through and they seem to think it’s pretty cool. We’re not up for paying the $4.99 to do our own test, so we’ll just trust them.

It’s a fun time waster with a seriously high level of polish. Due to the limitations of the iPhone, I’m not sure how exactly to solve the issue of not knowing where the hell you’re going, but if they do come up with a solution you’re looking at one of the best games available for the platform.

To pick up a copy visit the Apple iphone App store and search for it.

Airwalk: When Zombie Brands Roam The Earth

by The Editors on December 1, 2008

Staple

By most cursory observations the Airwalk brand continues to live on, though closer inspection suggests that it is more undead than alive. The most recent evidence is that “designer and street style icon, jeffstaple [yeah, that’s his tag: no space], chief designer of Staple Design” has announced “a multi-year agreement” to create exclusive Airwalk seasonal collections for fall and spring exclusively available at Payless Shoe Source under the STPL) 4 Airwalk brand.”

Payless is democratizing the latest ideas in footwear by making them accessible and affordable to all. I am very excited to join in this philosophy and approach,” said jeffstaple. “When I was growing up and busting my butt trying to skateboard, Airwalk and the essence of the brand was such a huge influence. The design Sneakerhead in me today is really excited to create fresh new silhouettes that embody the skate park and the street.

When a guy who has done great work for Nike, Burton, and Sony Playstation begins reanimating brands for Payless Shoe Source it’s got to be a case of. . . well . . . paying the bills.
